FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
If you have any questions, our FAQ page is a great resource! If you need more details about our private tours or services, please feel free to reach out to us. We're always here to help answer any additional inquiries you may have.
Are all of your Maui tours private?
Absolutely! Our Maui tours are entirely private and exclusive, meaning that you and your travel companions, whether they be friends or family, will have the tour all to yourselves. We never mix you with strangers, which allows us to cater to your interests and abilities by providing you with a variety of options throughout the day.
Can we customize our private tour?
Yes! You won’t get a canned tour here. All of our outdoor Maui activities are tailored to your specific interests, fitness level, and curiosity. It’s our goal to make you feel in charge of your journey; if you want to see something specific that’s not on our list, let us know and we’ll tailor a trip just for you!
What do I need to bring with me on the day of our Adventure?
For your adventure we recommend you bring:
- a small pack
- camera
- comfortable hiking shoes or sneakers with an unworn sole that you don’t mind getting wet (recommend Teva, Keen, Morrell, or similar sandals)
- bathing suit
- extra spending money
- reef-safe sunscreen
- change of clothing or light jacket
- and sun hat, if you have a favorite
If children are a part of your group, you will need to bring your own car seats and/or booster seat. We highly recommend bringing a carrier for young children.
What does Awapuhi Adventures provide throughout the day?
Our trips are all-inclusive which include:
- walking poles (upon request)
- boxed spring water
- beverages
- towels
- rain ponchos
- and fun surprises!
If you want to bring your own gear feel free.
Is there an age limit? Can my kids or baby go on the tour?
We do not have an age limit as long as the keiki (little ones) are up for it. Babies should be carried as you would at home, but as long as toddlers can walk, we can take them into the rainforest.
*It is advised that you bring your own child seat and any special snacks they may want throughout the day.
Children ages 0-2 ride free!
What are our meal/lunch options for our private Maui tour?
Lunch is à la carte.
We absolutely love supporting our local businesses! For our Road to Hana Adventure we're thrilled to offer a wide range of delicious lunch options. Take your pick from a variety of mouth-watering local cuisine, including BBQ stands, Food Trucks, and cozy sit-down restaurants. We're sure you'll find something that hits the spot!
Our Halfway to Hana and West Side Adventure Tours are coordinated with Hana Picnic Lunch who make delicious sandwiches.
*Let us know in advance and we can order sandwiches for any of our tours!
We also provide Kosher options from Maui Kosher Farm for all of our tours and are happy to do our best to accommodate special dietary needs—just ask (we need at least 7 days' advance notice for kosher picnic lunches).
While on our journey, are there places to purchase snacks?
There are a lot of snacks and tasty local treats to be enjoyed along the way! From vegan coconut ice cream to freshly baked banana bread. : )
How fit do I need to be?
We build a tour experience within your fitness level, specifically for you. However, the more fit and active you are the more hidden treasures we can offer you. Our tours cater to every fitness level including people who require assistance with walking.
For those desiring a more active day, you should be able to walk at least a 1/2 to 1 mile on uneven, slippery terrain. Most of our adventures require that you have a sense of balance and can walk on sand, mud, tree roots, rocks, and maintained nature trails. Most trails you will experience are relatively flat and under 2 miles round trip.
The average length of trails on Maui is less than 1 mile. However, there are trails that we highly recommend for experienced hikers that are several miles longer.
Many spots offer optional exploration such as cliff jumping.
How long do the trips last?
Most adventures are designed to be all-day. However, we will shorten ANY adventure to accommodate your individual schedule. For example, we can do a Halfway to Hana tour & Custom Maui Hike in 4-6 hours.
A full-day West Maui is typically 6-7 hours. We pick up for West Maui tours at a time that is convenient for you and your group.
A full-day Road to Hana Tour is typically 8-10 hours. Begins in Kahului around 7:30 a.m. and returns anytime between 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What should I do for motion sickness?
We recommend talking to your family physician if you get car sick. There are a couple of over-the-counter medications that will help you enjoy your tour with us such as Bonine and Dramamine. We can also stop to get ginger candies or Hana Tonic which is a homeopathic solution that may work for some individuals.
What happens if we have inclement weather on the day of our Maui tour?
Safety is our 1st priority for our guests. Our guides will use their best judgment to adjust the itinerary according to unsafe conditions.
